What Readers are Saying About Awake

“Awake is a phenomenal story. It takes all the familiar elements of Sleeping Beauty and twists them into something that is both recognizable and new at the same time. The dialogue between the three girls sparkled, and the relationship between Alex and Luke was romantic and real.

The magic scenes were my favorite parts of the story. Jessica Grey invented an entire system of magic for her book, and it is brilliant and consistent.”

- Nancy Kelley, Austen Aspirations

“Author Jessica Grey has created a believable and enthralling fantasy world balanced between our familiar reality and the realm of fairy enchantments. Her teenage characters feel like teens, though they are on the verge of adulthood. They deal with problems eighteen year olds have — school, life, love — without spouting annoying, pretentious, or overly adult dialogue. At the same time, I think that Awake, though listed as Young Adult Fantasy, holds enough adult appeal that older readers (like this one!) will still find much to love.”

Kimberly, Love Letters to the Library

“Grey paints a vivid picture of magic working in unison with nature. It’s an enchanting adventure of courage, self-discovery and friendship. The story is woven together with humor, mystery and true love.”

Candy Morton, So Little Time

Awake: A Fairytale

Alexandra Martin didn’t believe in fairytales…

Alex has always been more interested in rocks and science than stories about princesses and magic. Now she’s far too busy with her summer internship at the Gem and Mineral Museum to think about children’s stories. Between avoiding her former best friend and high school baseball star, Luke Reed, and trying to hide her unrequited crush on her mentor at the museum, the real world is occupying all of her time.

…Until she walked into one.

It turns out fairytales aren’t all fun and games. A curse has turned her neat and orderly world upside down, and to break it, she bands together with a fellow intern and a recently awakened princess who’s been asleep for 900 years. Can this trio of unlikely heroines put an end to an ominous enchantment, discover true love, and keep an ancient and evil magic from being unleashed on modern-day Los Angeles?

Jessica Grey has that talent that makes you feel that you are a part of the story. She can take you away from reality and feel and see what the characters are feeling or seeing. This book needs to be read!!!I am going to tell everyone about this book!!! Everyone who loves fairy tales needs to read this. I cannot wait until the next one. Keep up the great work!!!

I picked up this book when it was free on Amazon and have since than recommended it to all my friends and co-workers who read. It is an amazing book! I am actually willing to get it in paperback when it comes out. The characters are enjoyable and strong. Now the only thing that depresses me is I have to wait a year for the next one. Really looking forward to seeing what comes next in the series.

This book is the best modern twist on a fairytale I’ve ever read! My language arts teacher recommended this book to me because she knew I was a fan of fairytale fiction (that & I guess she knew you as a friend), but it’s more than that every time I turn the page!! I cannot wait until the other parts come out Miss Grey :)
